FOUR South African friends came together in 2025 with a shared vision: to organize a social gathering for expats on Tamborine Mountain.
The inaugural event took place in October 2025, made possible by the collaborative efforts of Clive Lucas, Ann Mincher-Allen, Lenore Los, and Skye Theron.
It was a resounding success, drawing approximately 60 attendees who enjoyed sharing stories and forging new friendships with fellow Southern Africans.
Building on the success of last year’s gathering, the group is once again inviting Southern Africans to meet this month on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Due to popular demand, they have expanded the invitation to expats across the greater Brisbane and Gold Coast areas.
Clive is optimistic about the turnout, hoping to attract at least 100 people this time around.
“We have been inundated with requests from people eager to join our next social gathering,” says Skye, who manages the group’s communications.
Among those excited to attend are Raylene and Colin Gilpin, who migrated from South Africa and arrived on Tamborine Mountain just two weeks ago.
As the new owners of Mountain Sanctuary Retreat, they are already embedding themselves in the local community.
Raylene will soon launch a private counselling practice, while Colin works in the environmental sector on the Gold Coast.
Both are looking forward to connecting with fellow South African expats at the upcoming mountain gathering.
