Hydrotherapy group sessions return to the mountain!

Residents of Tamborine Mountain and surrounds now have another option to support their recovery and rehabilitation, thanks to the generosity of a local resident offering the use of a new hydrotherapy facility.

Commencing in September, physio Lauren will lead small group sessions on Tuesday afternoons in the heated pool, conveniently located on the mountain and able to be used year-round!

A modality with many benefits used for centuries, hydrotherapy isn’t simply swimming.

Performed in warm water under the guidance of a qualified physiotherapist, exercises are specifically selected and adapted to address individual’s conditions, goals and stages of recovery.

With the buoyancy of the water reducing the amount of weight placed through the body, pressure is taken off joints and muscles, making movement easier and often more comfortable than similar exercises on land.

At the same time, the resistance provided by the water can help build strength, balance and mobility.

Hydrotherapy is often used as a gateway into further exercise in the initial stages of an injury or when recovering from chronic pain, as the supportive nature of the water can allow patients to begin moving and strengthening earlier or more comfortably, while gradually progressing toward other exercises as recovery continues.

Hydrotherapy is particularly useful for people recovering from joint, muscle and bone injuries, as well as those experiencing pain or reduced mobility.

It is commonly used as part of rehabilitation for:

  • Knee, hip and shoulder injuries or surgery,
  • Chronic back pain and neck conditions,
  • Arthritis and other painful joint conditions,
  • Balance and mobility difficulties,
  • General deconditioning following illness or injury.

Along with the physical benefits, the soothing temperature of the pool aids in relaxing muscles and increasing circulation, thereby stimulating the release of endorphins, leading to reduced stress, tension and pain.

Clinical evidence also reports that hydrotherapy can help balance the nervous system and boost immunity, in turn lowering the risk of infection and illness.
