Shaking up the local music scene, Brisbane-based guitarist Rodrigo Santiago will be a special guest at the upcoming Music Night at the Zambia Theatre on September 11.
Since launching earlier this year the event continues to bring talented musicians together for an evening of live music and community connection.
Rodrigo specialises in Gypsy jazz, blending fiery Flamenco rhythms, Latin grooves and the soulful influences of his Spanish heritage.
He will be joined by some of South East Queensland’s most experienced jazz musicians, including John Reeves on piano accordion, Rory Dollard on guitar and Shenzo Gregorio on octave viola.
Local artists Mandy Brown and Forbes McKail will also take to the stage, with the evening featuring an open mic session before musicians come together for a final jam.
Musician and event coordinator Ludek Nemecek said he was excited to bring high-quality talent to the community, with Rodrigo’s unique take on Gypsy jazz set to make for an unforgettable show.
“I can guarantee you had never heard better Gypsy jazz in your life – it’s just outstanding.”
For Ludek, the event is about creating an accessible and affordable night where the community can come together through music.
“It’s about the energy – people are happy to play or people are just happy to hear people play,” he added.
“You can sit at home and just be talking about it or you can just get up and come.”
Local musicians are also encouraged to take the stage during the open mic session, with performers receiving free entry.
With all funds raised going towards the musicians, bands and team involved in organising the event, Ludek said the night was about supporting the local music scene.
He hopes Music Nights will provide a great night out for locals and people from surrounding areas.

The family-friendly event is BYO food and drinks, with music kicking off at 6.30pm.
Tickets are $20 at the door or $15 online via Humanitix, while meal deals available through supporting businesses provide $10 tickets.
