Welcome Spring! At Ikhaya Lami, Lenore and Ron Los have harvested their first bananas and are watching the pawpaws ripen in their two-year young garden.
Ron has built an arbour at the entrance and soon the sweet scents of the forty sweet peas they’ve planted will merrily greet you as you step into their garden.
Springtime on the Mountain Open Gardens Trail 2025 is about to begin. From Friday September 26 to Sunday September 28, locals and visitors are privileged to have the opportunity to explore six privately owned, beautiful gardens that have been opened to the public, by their very generous owners.
Busy is the word that is frequently repeated. They have been busy planting, busy mulching, busy pinching out and creating, all for us to enjoy.
Over at Carousel that has entailed pinching out the pansies and over 300 primula to delay their flowering. Flanders poppies, larkspurs, stocks, rhododendron and azaleas are just beginning to flower.
Clive at Hartley Road has been adding colour, to pop, against the glorious green backdrops of his established garden.
At Montecatini you’ll meander along handmade path ways discovering sun filled fruit tree groves and shady nooks planted with shrubs from ancestral homes. Have you seen their family tree?
Or will you discover the Secret Garden or perhaps the Crescent Garden at the historical Old Sawmill?
Meanwhile at century old Chancellor Cottage, Sandy has planted an abundance of flowers. John has installed a beautiful birdhouse and renewed pathways. They know ‘Grandleland’, which is looking especially cute, will delight both young and old.

Only $25 gives you entry to all six gardens over the three days. Pay online or at the gate of the first garden you visit. Short of time? Simply pay $5 (cash only) at the gate of each individual garden.
