Many years ago, Friends of the Library planted some veggie beds outside the old library. But, over time, the nasturtiums, arrowroot and dogbane took over.
With the Edible Garden Trail coming up on Sunday March 23, it was time for a refurbish.
So six Mountain Mates, with assistance from Lions and community volunteers, replanted the beds recently. Themes are ‘bush natives’, ‘perennial greens’, and ‘herbs’.
Eagle Heights Edible Exchange coordinator Bron Kelly and Mountain Mates facilitator (and Lions member) Janis Bailey are thrilled with the results, and proud of the Mates’ hard work.
Buy your tickets for March 23, via Humanitix, only $17 to visit seven fabulous ‘edible gardens’ on the Mountain to get heaps of ideas; children under 13 free.
You can say hi to the ‘Old Library Garden’ any time, of course. As the plants grow and thrive, we hope Mountain folk will grab some sage, warrigal greens or spinach on their way to the library or post office.
Edible gardening: creating food, creating community.
