AUSTRALIAN athletics superstar Emilia Surch visited Tamborine Mountain Little Athletics providing inspiration to a new generation of track and field stars.
Emilia is the current under 20 Oceania meet record holder for long jump and 100m hurdles.
She competed for Australia in 2022 at the World Under 20 Championships, where she placed fourth in long jump and competed in the 100m hurdles.
Tamborine Mountain Little Athletics won a draw to have Emilia attend as a Coles and Little Athletics ambassador for the Coles Community Round.
With an aunt, uncle and cousins living on the mountain, Emilia jumped at the chance to visit and inspire a new generation of athletes.
Having started out in Little Athletics in the under 6s and then competing in the under 15s Australian Little Athletics Championships, Emilia believes it provides a great ground for children to become competitive athletes.
“You get to make friends and it is a great community to be a part of,” Emilia said.
“It is a good path to the Olympics and many of the kids here are striving for the Brisbane Olympics.”
Emilia spent the afternoon joining in on the activities and taking on the kids in banana themed races and games.
Tamborine Mountain Little Athletics has 126 children in the club ranging in age from the tiny tots – under fours – through to under 17s.
Thirty-six children recently competed in regional trials and 13 others headed to the State competition at the end of November.
