THE Tamborine Mountain Tennis Club Inc will be resurfaced thanks to a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
The courts were built in 2009 and had not been resurfaced since, far exceeding the 12-year lifespan of the surface.
“They were certainly due for resurfacing. It’s now worn down the whole way,” president Henry Rich said.
He said they were looking forward to getting the work done very soon, which would be welcomed by the 112 members of the club, as well as non-members who rented out the courts.
“It should improve the game and enjoyment. Playing on a good surface where the ball bounces true is very important and it’s probably harder on members knees (in the condition it’s in now), making it hard for the older members,” Henry said.
The Tennis Club is a popular activity for residents offering after school coaching for kids and social tennis for adults.
Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krausse commended successful groups in the electorate that will share in $355,577 funding and presented members with the cheque.
“It is wonderful to see that these community groups will be able to install and upgrade facilities to help them to maintain their services,” he said.
Since he was elected organisations in the Scenic Rim have benefited from $15,046,783 from the fund.
