A COOL change is coming to the mountain when Tamborine Mountain Show Society hold their Winter Festival themed show on June 20 next year.
The Tamborine Mountain show was originally held during September, moved to April, and then March, with each date change being due to bad weather.
After Cyclone Alfred came in March, the aftermath of the storm took a major toll on the show society as they had to postpone the show due to the damage made to the showgrounds.
President Vanessa Bull says that they needed to change the date of the show to try to avoid any natural disasters.
“March was a fairly safe time – it’s about one out of four chance it is rained out,” she said.
“After the last year, we thought, ‘no, this is the year we’re going to try something different’.”
Vanessa felt a winter-theme is a unique take on the usual Tamborine Mountain shows that have been held in Autumn and Spring.
The show society are excited to bring a completely different take on the local show and are trying to bring snow to the mountain.
“We’re anticipating getting the people who make snow out of a big machine – a machine that throws it across the paddock and the kids play in it,” Vanessa said.
“We think it’ll attract a lot of people because, in the winter on Tamborine Mountain, people come here to feel the cold.”
The idea came to her after she experienced the snow machines with her nieces and nephews.
“It was a really sunny day, but there was all this snow where we went.
“That’s when we thought Tamborine Mountain and snow would be perfect,” she added.
Next year’s show will still run show activities as per usual, with the addition of the snow festival.
Vanessa says that there will be an entry cost for the snow festival, but plenty of time to “make snowmen, throw snowballs and have a really good time”.
“People can’t afford to go to the snow these days, so we thought we’ll bring the snow to them,” she said.
“We’re going to give them the best shot at having a proper cold experience.”
