THREE students from Tamborine Mountain Dance Academy performed in the Brisbane City Youth Ballet concert over the school holidays.
The students, Jennifer Smith, 12, Daisy Reid, 9, and Chloe Rogers, 8, were chosen after auditioning to perform in five shows of The Fairy Queen at Brisbane’s Powerhouse Theatre.
They spent the first week of the school holidays rehearsing before the shows on the weekend.
Jennifer danced in the roles of plum butterfly and dragonfly in the main company, while Daisy and Chloe were toadstool fairies in the petite company.
TMDA principal Poppy-Jane Todd said she was extremely proud of her students.
“It was an immense joy to watch Jennifer, Daisy, and Chloe take the stage in ‘The Fairy Queen’ with Brisbane City Youth Ballet. Their selection for such a prestigious youth company is a testament to their dedication, hard work and passion,” she said.
“Seeing my students flourish in a professional rehearsal and performance environment is very rewarding, and I am so proud of the way they continue to challenge themselves artistically and technically.
“I have no doubt that this experience will continue to inspire their dance journeys for years to come.
“At Tamborine Mountain Dance Academy, we strive to nurture not only strong technicians, but thoughtful and passionate performers. Opportunities such as this one with the BCYB allow young dancers to expand their horizons and grow in confidence and maturity.”
The students study the Vaganova method of classical ballet at TMDA through the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet syllabus.
Jennifer will sit her ‘Level 4’ exam later this year while Daisy will sit her ‘Level 1’ exam and Chloe, her ‘Preparatory Level 1’ Exam.
