Tamborine Mountain State High School has formally inducted its 2026 student leadership team, with Principal Mrs Jessica Keavney urging students to view leadership as service rather than status.
The ceremony, held on February 19, recognised school captains, vice captains, house captains, music captains, peer leaders and student council representatives.
Addressing students, families and guests, Mrs Keavney said leadership extended beyond titles and badges.
“Leadership is not a badge or title, it is a responsibility and honour, and above all a commitment to serve others,” she said.
“You help ensure the school remains a place where our students feel safe, they belong, and they look forward to walking through our gates every single morning.”
Grounding her message in the school’s values of respect, integrity and care, Mrs Keavney encouraged leaders to model inclusive behaviour and strong character.
“Integrity means doing what is right even when no one is watching,” she said.
“There are moments you’ll come across when taking the easy option is tempting. But true leadership is shown in those blind decisions, the choices you make when the spotlight is off.”
Newly inducted school captain Kai Hassell thanked staff and students for their support and outlined plans for the year ahead.
“First of all, I’d like to say thank you on behalf of all the school captains and everyone here to the team and staff behind the scenes, we really appreciate you for supporting us,” he said.
“We’ve had some great moments already this year, and it’s been really fun.”
Kai said the leadership team was already working on events and fundraising initiatives, including a campaign to support children with disabilities.
“We’re going to do an event for Youngcare, so we’re trying to raise $1,000 for them which gives kids with disabilities the resources that they need.”
“When we look forward to the rest of the year, we know we’ve got plenty on but it’s going to be a great year.”
The ceremony also acknowledged the work of house captains, music captains, student council members and alliance program leaders.
