The push for better public transport on Tamborine Mountain has gained new momentum, with Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause backing community advocates Neil Smith and Zoe Ross in their campaign for a full public transport service.
Neil has been driving the campaign since 2020, with the pair recently submitting a letter to Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg and receiving a response.
They have since lodged their next submission with Translink, calling for a weekend and public holiday service on the mountain.
Neil and Zoe met with Mr Krause on August 20 to discuss their latest submission and ongoing advocacy.
“During a successful meeting with Mr Krause, it was decided that we would work together, as Rotary members and the local member, to advocate and pursue a positive outcome for the Tamborine Mountain community,” Neil said.
“We’re impressed with his enthusiasm. We’ve got support from all these people, and he’s become part of the conversation.”
Mr Krause said he would continue supporting the pair’s campaign for improved public transport on the mountain.
“The work undertaken by community advocates for enhanced public transport on the Mountain is commendable and I will continue to support their advocacy to TransLink and the Department of Transport and Main Roads for improved services,” he said.
Mr Krause has advocated for improved public transport across the Scenic Rim since 2018.
He sponsored a Queensland Parliamentary e-petition in 2018, calling for a Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) trial connecting Tamborine Mountain with the Helensvale transport hub.
He also raised the issue in Parliament that year, criticising the Department of Transport and Main Roads for rejecting initial community proposals.
In 2020, Mr Krause again raised the lack of public transport on the mountain in Parliament, referencing the 2018 community petition and proposals put forward by the local Rotary Club.
In 2025, Mr Krause announced the DRT service had been made permanent and said he would continue advocating for expanded Translink stops and services across the Scenic Rim.
The TransitCare DRT service remains a Monday-to-Friday bus service, with four services operating to and from Helensvale each day and one afternoon service to and from Beenleigh using a car.
Tamborine Mountain News asked Mr Krause whether he intended to raise the issue in Parliament again, but he did not respond before deadline.
