Santa’s little helpers ready to ignite Christmas 2026

Christmas on Tamborine owner, Maggie Fitzpatrick would love to see a community event on the mountain

THE Christmas spirit on Tamborine Mountain is set to be revived this year thanks to a number of organisations who have answered the call.

Tamborine Mountain News is looking forward to supporting events with the Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce and other community members.

Tamborine Mountain News editor Keer Moriarty said the mountain is an ideal location for a Christmas event to appeal to tourists but also create something very special for residents.

“I was surprised that there hasn’t been a Christmas community event on the mountain for a number of years. There are a small number of volunteers organising a lot of great events and I’m hoping some new people can work towards a Christmas event,” she said.

“Having seen the great community events in Beaudesert, Canungra and Tamborine (Village), and being involved in organising the Canungra events, I’m excited about the opportunity to create something special on Tamborine Mountain.”

Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce secretary Jools Bruhn said last year had been a huge year for the chamber and they were not able to put together a Christmas event in time but were excited to begin early preparations for Christmas 2026.

“When Keer approached us I thought, great this is exactly what we want,” she said with ideas now buzzing around her head.

“We spend a lot of time organising month to month events, but the big events don’t happen on their own and we’d love some help.

“Any volunteers who are willing to come forward and put an event together would be wonderful.

“I’m keen to bring life back to the mountain. But the reality between kicking off a big event with only four people on the committee is tough.”

Local resident David Thorndike, who runs Truesound Productions and produces the Myer Music Bowl Christmas Carols as well as other community carol events, including Yarrabilba and Forest Lake, is keen to also get involved and help put on a big carols event.

“The one thing I’ve been thinking about since living here is an actual proper community carols,” he said.

“We can do it up here, it’s quite easy to do, we just need the support to do it.”

Maggie Fitzpatrick owner of Christmas on Tamborine on Gallery Walk said she’d love to see a Christmas event held on Gallery Walk, similar to the Canungra Christmas markets, however, the Scenic Rim Council have said because of the lack of lighting it wouldn’t be suitable.

“Canungra was a prime example of the community coming together. It was a great evening,” she said.

“If we could do an evening event here, I’d love to be involved. A few people are keen to do something,” she said.

“I’ve got a fake snow machine and a big archway to walk through.”

She said people come into the shop and ask if there is anything to do for Christmas on the mountain and a night event would ensure it’s aimed at locals.
