Tamborine Mountain musician Indy Clark will premiere a new original production, I Don’t Want To; Why Should I?, as part of the Brisbane Anywhere Festival this May.
The show marks a creative shift for Indy, who has spent more than three decades performing, primarily as a guitarist and songwriter.
Around three years ago, he turned his attention to the piano despite having limited experience with the instrument.
That experiment led to a burst of songwriting, with Indy completing 11 new tracks over a two-year period.
The material forms the basis of the upcoming performance, which organisers say reflects a particularly productive phase in his career.
Indy will be joined by cellist and composer Ben Marshall, a recent Conservatorium graduate and co-artistic director of Nexus New Music.
His contributions are expected to provide a layered accompaniment to the piano-led songs.
The new production follows Indy’s 2024 show Good Songs; Bad Luck!, which focused on his earlier catalogue.
In contrast, I Don’t Want To; Why Should I? explores more recent themes, including personal reflection and change.
The performance will be staged at the The Raven Hotel Cellar in West End across two days – May 16 at 4.30pm and May 24 at 5pm.
