Scenic Rim Regional Council is inviting community feedback to a draft amendment to the Scenic Rim Planning Scheme 2020, which is now available for public consultation.
At the most recent Ordinary Meeting, Councillors unanimously endorsed the draft amendment be made available for public consultation in accordance with the Planning Act 2016 Draft Amendment No.8 will be available for public consultation from May 11, 2026 to June 19, 2026.
Mayor Tom Sharp said the package included a broad spectrum of amendments aimed at improving clarity and consistency, ensuring the planning scheme remains contemporary and removes undue regulation.
“The ongoing maintenance of any planning scheme is to accommodate the foreverchanging landscape of a region, country or state; whether that be technological change and growth conditions of all sorts arising,” he said.
“This is actually the people’s document, and they need to review it.
“Where there is a point to be made, it’s important to make that submission as it relates to the next step.”
Cr Marshall Chalk, who oversees the Economic Development portfolio, said the amendment involved a considerable amount of work by Council officers and encouraged those interested to have a say during the public consultation process.
The proposed changes include a range of matters from increasing the gross floor area for roadside stalls to proposed changes to encourage residential care and retirement facilities, EV charging provision, zoning changes for new blocks and subdivisions, and updates in relation to solar farms to align these with State Government provisions.
Community members, landowners and stakeholders are encouraged to review the document and provide submissions during the consultation period.
Feedback received will play an important role in shaping the final version of the amendment before it is considered for adoption.

Submissions can be made to Council about any aspect of the proposed amendments during the public consultation period from 11 May 2026 to 19 June 2026.
