Pie dish beetle – Emcephalus floccosus, MacDonald National Park.
This is one of my great favourites.
The species is covered with waxy hairs, which they lose as they age, although I have only seen floccose specimens.
The genus does not belong to the two genera of Australian pie dish beetles, but shares the flanged body shape which is reflected in its common name.
It is found along coastal Queensland and just over the border in New South Wales.
At about 22 mm, this individual is as large as they grow.
