TAMBORINE Mountain Little Theatre is looking for aspiring (or experienced) performers for their next production.

Duck Hunter Shoots Angel by Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie) is coming to the Zamia in 2025 and Director Katie Hooper wants you to be part of this great theatre production.

The play is an uproarious comedy about two bumbling Alabama duck hunters who have never shot a duck, but who think they’ve shot an angel.

As they lament their fates in a murky swamp they are hounded by a cynical tabloid journalist and his reluctant photographer who don’t believe any of it – until feathers, wings and a tiara are discovered along the way.

The play hysterically interweaves a love story, sibling rivalry, tawdry media, race relations and cultural stereotypes as the chase to find the angel builds to a crescendo in the swamp.

Ultimately a sweet allegory about redemption, Duck Hunter Shoots Angel is a comedy with a surprisingly heartfelt lesson.

Katie is looking for anyone with a keen interest in acting, whether experienced or novice, to play the following characters:

  • Sandy – Tabloid journalist. Main role. Male. 30-65 years.
  • Duane – Alabama duck hunter. Southern accent. Large role. Either gender. 30-65 years.
  • Duwell/Gator Man – Alabama duck hunter. Southern accent. Large role. Either gender. 30 – 65 years.
  • Lenny – photographer. Person of colour. Either gender. 30 – 65 years.
  • Lester – newspaper owner. Either gender. 30 – 40 years.
  • Kansas – Gasmart employee. Smaller role. Southern accent. Younger female.
  • Woman – small role. Southern accent. Female. 30 – 65 years.
  • Loan Officer/The Voice – tiny onstage role. Is also ‘The Voice’ (pre-recorded). Either gender. 30-65 years.

Auditions will be held on Thursday December 5 at 7.30pm at the Zamia Theatre.

Rehearsals for Duck Hunter Shoots Angel start on January 7. Shows late March to April 12, 2025.

If you are too shy to act but would like to help behind the scenes, there may be other roles you can play.

“We are also looking for a sound technician and stage manager to help with the show, and a musician who could play two live songs during the show,” said Katie.
