TREVOR Jackson’s voice is synonymous with the Gold Coast radio airwaves, having worked for 10 years with the ABC.
Now, after a break of ten years the Tamborine Mountain local is thrilled to be returning to host ABC Gold Coast Breakfast from 5am to 8am Monday to Friday.
Trevor is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster with a career at ABC stretching back more than 20 years.
When the opportunity arose to return to his passion of radio he jumped at it.
“I was elated. Radio has been my life. People would ask all the time if I missed radio and my answer was, ‘only every day’,” he said, adding, “I feel like the new kid in town with the L plates on.”
He’s unfazed by the early starts with the alarm going off at 3am and a 4am start before hitting the mike at 5am.
Trevor, his wife and two boys moved to the mountain 20 years ago from Hobart, almost immediately falling in love with its tranquillity.
“Within days of my wife and kids arriving she said, ‘this is it this is where I want to live’,” Trevor said.
“It’s the longest either of us have ever lived in a place.
“It’s heaven on earth here. The serenity. Our neighbours are our friends. There is a wonderful sense of community.
“There is a point where you get about halfway up the mountain and a feeling washes over you and you think, ‘I’m home’”.
“The challenge for us is we don’t get to spend enough time here during the week, so on weekends we like to stay here.”
Trevor said radio is still a very viable medium.
“People wake up and don’t have time to watch TV or read their phones if they are getting kids off to school and making breakfast. You can listen to radio. Breakfast radio people set their lives by, so you have to keep segments on time,” he explained.
“It’s almost like a media diary to keep track of what you are doing without having to look at the clock.
“As the sun comes up and the day is breaking, disseminating information to the audience is very addictive and every day is different.”
