Gallery Walk Carpark Project – Mayor Sharp has called for an investigation into the circumstances which led to the $1.6m budget blow-out. Funds will now have to be re-allocated from within existing approved projects to cover this short-fall.
Community consultation – I will be available at the Councillor’s office (first glass door near the Post office) from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Thursday, 05 March. Other days: if my sign is out, I am there. Drop in to discuss your issues or have a chat. Realistic budget suggestions welcome. No appointment necessary. Thankyou to the many people who have dropped in over the past few days and raised issues of which I was unaware. These have resulted in referrals for compliance action where the amenity of residents has been significantly impacted.
Beaucare Community Connect – will be hosting a free morning tea at the Tamborine Mountain library from 10am to 12 noon on Thursday March 12. For further information on support and services available, please contact Claire on 5541 4216.
Batteries and e-Waste – please dispose of all batteries appropriately. Fires caused by batteries, including the recent Bromelton waste facility fire, are difficult and expensive to control. No batteries in your rubbish bins please.
Sale of properties for unpaid rates – several properties on the Mountain have accrued significant rates arears and are under consideration for sale to recoup the amounts owing. All property owners have had the opportunity to enter into payment arrangements, however when correspondence is ignored, there are consequences.
Generator on a trailer – now located permanently on the Mountain for use by Council in times of natural disaster.
The Cableway – I am informed that Council’s CEO has written to GCCC however I have not seen a copy of the letter.
Break-in at the tip – last week, the tip facility was broken into, damage to the office occurred however attempts to steal machinery were unsuccessful. Knoll Rd residents – please be vigilant.
Wild dogs – increasing reports received of wild dogs/dingoes on the Mountain. Please ensure your domestic animals are in appropriate enclosures for their protection. Most wild dogs are too canny to be trapped and residents are not keen on the use of 1080 baits, leaving few options to remove the dogs. The owner of the roaming husky-type dog which has allegedly killed family pets and chickens has been identified.
Good news – the Dapsang Drive public toilet block will soon be replaced (with much greater scrutiny of this project by Councillors).
Not so good news – The Lions Park public amenities block will be commenced in the current financial year but won’t be completed until next financial year.
