SONIA Taylor, owner of Ticketty Boo dog grooming is celebrating after winning best of breed at the Ekka with her Sealyham Terrier, beating a bitch imported from Canada.
“It was great winning at the Ekka is a big thing, a bit different from the normal shows,” Sonia said.
“I had a lot of trouble settling him down because it was so much activity for his senses.
“Last year I went to watch the other Sealyham and here we are a year later winning.”
It was a big win for Sonia who is new to dog showing and competed in the Ekka for the first time this year.
Little Elliot, whose pedigree name is Ch Premlata Lighthouse of My Own, is only 15 months old but has already gained his Australian champion title.
Sealyham Terriers are a rare old Welsh breed.
“It wasn’t easy to find one as there are only six breeders in Australia. Elliot came from a breeder in Coffs Harbour,” she said.
“I was looking for a wire-haired dachshund but found it hard to get. I had a Sealyham come into the salon and fell in love with it.
“I love the terrier spunk. He’s a lovely boy, a typical cheeky terrier. He comes to work with me every day, he’s loyal and fun.”
Sonia admits that getting ready for a show is a lot of work and if she wasn’t a dog groomer she probably wouldn’t have chosen a white dog that requires so much grooming.
She now hopes to follow up Elliot’s win at the Beaudesert Show on September 6, where she will also introduce her new Sealyham Terrier, Audrey, to the showring.
