Rethinking Health Wellness Day presentations

Hayden

A PACKED conference room on the mountain heard how health can be improved at any age when at the Rethinking Health Wellness Day.

Do you want an extra 20 years of good quality life? From the age of 40, that’s what it could be if you throw off all the bad lifestyle habits and start and maintain all the good lifestyle habits written about and evaluated in countless studies across the world and referenced in this seminar. Starting at the age of 70, gains of 10+ years can still be made.

Even when you break down overall “wellness” into the components of physical, mental, social and spiritual health you can identify longevity gains in each and everyone of them.

On Saturday 9 August, at the Vonda Youngman Community Centre, attendees heard theory and some practice about:

  • The incredible impact of lifestyle on health and aging
  • Keep fit, stay well regular exercises
  • The effect of stress on the body
  • The relationship between body, mind and spirit
  • Foods that harm, foods that heal
  • A formula for a healthy you and evidence it works

Attendees enjoyed a delicious vegetarian meal and recipes have been requested.

Absorbing information on this topic is fine, but it really needs commitment to identify and own areas of personal health improvement and find as simple as possible ways of addressing issues which will be different for everyone.

The Rethinking Health Team are endeavouring to go beyond raising subject awareness to then signpost people to possible opportunities that already exist here on the mountain and to work on creating some possible solutions based on need/interest in each of the wellness dimensions of physical, mental, social and spiritual health.

Such optional opportunities may include things such as:

  • Vegetarian cooking
  • Understanding the effects of food on mood (further seminars)
  • Group walks (rainforest and beach)
  • Group exercise programs
  • Biblical insights
  • Regular café meet up
