Scenic Rim Regional Council has completed lighting upgrades to two fields at Tamborine Mountain’s Long Road Sports Complex boosting safety and increasing community participation.
On one field, existing lighting and electrical infrastructure was upgraded from halogen to LED, while on the other, two new poles with LED lights were installed to provide lighting suitable for community-level football matches.
Division 1 Councillor Amanda Hay welcomed the completion of the works which followed previous commitments for new lighting for sporting fields at Coronation Park at Boonah and Selwyn Park at Beaudesert.
“It’s wonderful to see members of our community already out enjoying these facilities now they are completed,” she said.
“The upgrade aligns with Council’s plan to encourage our whole community, and particularly our families, to Be Healthy and Active by adopting a more active lifestyle.
“The new and improved lighting will allow members of the community to maximise the use of Long Road Sports and Recreation Complex which is a wonderful community facility.
“The lighting upgrades will encourage greater participation in local sporting events not only contributing to individual health and wellbeing but also the overall health and wellbeing of the community by bringing people together.”
The Tamborine Mountain Sports Association (TMSA), which manages the Long Road facility, is delighted with the additional lighting.
“We’re really happy that Council made the contribution to the facility and we’re looking forward to working with Council in the future to achieve positive outcomes for community sport and recreation,” TMSA president Alick Kilsby said.
“The additional lighting has given us an additional field at night. This has taken the pressure off the single oval that we previously used for all night-time training and games.
“We have well over 1000 members from the sporting clubs from Tamborine Mountain. It’s of huge benefit to the whole community to have a lit up green space.”
Cr Hay said Council was grateful to the Queensland Government for its funding contribution.
“Council is committed to ensuring residents have access to modern sporting facilities that will meet community needs now and into the future,” she said.
The improvements meet the outcomes of the Council’s Sports and Recreation Plan 2024-2034 for additional lighting on sports fields for evening use and greater sports participation at premier multi-sport venues.
The lighting upgrades were funded with the support of the Queensland Government’s Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund in association with Scenic Rim Regional Council.
