Nine girls from Tamborine Mountain Dance Academy took out first place in the under 15s small group contemporary class at Beenleigh Eisteddfod against stiff competition from many major Gold Coast and Brisbane schools.

TMDA principal Poppy-Jane Todd said the students had shown enormous commitment and spent months training for the competition.

“I could not be prouder of the students’ hard work and dedication in endeavouring to refine their craft and work together as a cohesive unit,” she said.

“To win at eisteddfod is no small feat – it is a testament to the efforts of the students in striving for excellence over the course of the year.

“I have witnessed so much growth in all of our students and cannot wait to see what they continue to accomplish in the years to come.”

Eighteen students participated in solo/duo/trio eisteddfods at both the Beenleigh and Gold Coast Eisteddfods to fantastic results, including many firsts, seconds and thirds.

The Senior Jazz groups received a Very Highly Commended, while the Junior (under 10s) Jazz group received second place and Junior (under 10s) Contemporary group received third at the Beenleigh Eisteddfod.

Poppy-Jane said TMDA students have also just completed their ballet and jazz exams with ten students being awarded honours with distinction in the jazz and tap exams which requires a score of over 95%.

The ballet exam results in the Vaganova method through The Australian Conservatoire of Ballet are still to come in but Poppy-Jane is confident they will be equally as strong.
