THE Scenic Rim continues to remain a viable option for the many families unable to find affordable rentals in areas such as Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast..

While there is a major lack of rentals available in other nearby areas a review of major real estate website realestate.com this month showed there were still plenty of homes available in the Scenic Rim.

The website listed more than 50 properties in Beaudesert with the suburb of Gleneagle alone posting more than 10 homes.

These properties all sat at a weekly rent of around $600.

If you were looking for a property in nearby districts such as Tamborine Mountain and Canungra there were more than 20 available, however, you needed to find around $200 more a week to be handed the key.

The latest “Rental Pain Index” released by Suburbtrends revealed some good news in that that rent prices only increased marginally, however, it went on to report that most areas were still under extreme rental stress.

The index painted a sobering picture stating that many hopeful renters continued to face major availability and affordability issues, with rent consuming well over 30% of household income.

Founder of Suburbtrends, Kent Lardner, said it was not just about numbers.

“This is about people at risk of displacement and homelessness and that threat is still very real,” he said.

“Families are being priced out, even in regions where rents aren’t rising as fast. The system continues to fail those who need stable housing the most.”
