TAMBORINE Village Lions Club has taken the Community Event of the Year at Scenic Rim’s Australia Day Awards.

Since 2010, Tamborine Village Lions Club has organised the annual Christmas in the Village event, featuring Christmas carols and twilight markets, bringing together the community of Tamborine and surrounding areas.

The event is a gesture of appreciation from the Lions to the community for its support throughout the year.

The Award was received by Lions Shirlene Pott and President Paul Krahen.

In his acceptance speech, Krahen praised the efforts of Pott, who is responsible for the Lions’ Club’s marketing and publicity.

“Since she’s come on board all of our events, especially the Christmas event, have grown significantly.”

Krahen also received a nomination for Citizen of the Year (65+ years).

The Awards were presented by Mayor Greg Christensen at The Centre Beaudesert.

“As I reflected on the diversity of the nominations and the context of the year that was 2023, I was reminded of the joy and hope that is affirmed through the efforts of all nominees,” he said.
