COMMUNITY consultation on Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Draft 2025-2026 Budget has opened following its endorsement a Special Meeting.
In tandem with the Draft Corporate Plan 2025-2030, the draft budget will be open for consultation for four weeks during April and May 2025.
Scenic Rim Mayor Tom Sharp urged residents and business operators to make the most of a opportunity to provide their feedback.
“The draft budget takes account of community needs and expectations and has been framed in the context of the current economic climate,” he said.
“Council understands the cost-of living pressures faced by our community but also the need to continue to meet the expected levels of service required for our region as our costs continue to increase.”
“Our challenge in developing the budget is to balance community expectations against the pressures of maintaining public assets while protecting our future financial sustainability and providing best value to the community.”
A key element of the draft budget is Council’s commitment to maintaining all existing services and levels of service.
One of the major infrastructure allocations is $500,000 for the Long Road Sports Complex septic tank replacement.
The draft budget also provides for $1 million of new programs to enhance environmental management and support landholders in maintaining the Scenic Rim’s natural assets which is to be funded by an environmental levy of $50 a year.
The draft budget is based on a notional seven per cent increase to general rates, the community infrastructure charge and fees and charges and a 14.3 per cent increase to Council’s waste collection and disposal charges.
This compares with the 2.76 per cent increase in the minimum general rate and community infrastructure charge in the 2024-2025 Budget.
