Through their business Epic Surfaces, the pair specialise in concrete resurfacing, transforming tired or mismatched areas into modern, non-slip finishes without the need for full replacement.
“We resurface by painting a non-slip surface over concrete,” Brendan said.
“It doesn’t have to be old either, even newer concrete can be improved.”
Using products from Shieldcoat, including the StepSafe Heavy Duty system, Epic Surfaces applies a durable coating designed to enhance both safety and appearance. The system boasts a P5 anti-slip rating – the highest available under Australian standards for wet areas – making it ideal for driveways, pool surrounds and outdoor spaces.
“We’ll put a nice, coloured coating over the top with a whole range of colours,” Brendan said.
“Generally, it’s a base coat with colour flecks to give it a really clean, modern look.”
Aaron, who has spent years in the building industry, said the business grew from a need to solve a real problem during a major homestead project.
“We’d damaged the concrete during the build and were looking for a solution,” he said. “We got trained up with the product and realised how good the results were. The transformation is phenomenal.”
Beyond aesthetics, the resurfacing process also improves durability.
Cracks are repaired using a flexible compound that moves with the concrete, helping prevent further damage over time.
“It’s a cost-effective way of doing it rather than digging everything out and starting again,” Brendan said.
“People probably just don’t realise how good it is.”
