As a provider of Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services, Tamborine Mountain Community Care were delighted to hear the announcement that the program, originally scheduled to merge with the ‘Support at Home’ program by July 2027, will now be extended for a further two years to at least June 30, 2029.
The government will continue to fund critical aged care services for 830,000 older Australians after promising to keep separate two commonwealth-funded programs beyond 2029.
Health Minister Mark Butler and Aged Care Minister Sam Rae announced on Thursday August 20 that the federal government would extend the Commonwealth Home Support Program to June 2029.
The CHSP provides subsidised, contracted services, including for cleaning, gardening, shopping, transport, and social support services.
CHSP services are available to over 65’s (over 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) to assist them to remain living in their own homes rather than entering residential aged care facilities.
CHSP is the entry level support of the government 3 tier aged care system that is currently in place.
We are hopeful that funding levels for the CHSP services will soon be reviewed and increased to meet the demand of the ageing population and help eliminate current wait times for services to commence.
