For fifty years the incredible and diverse talent of Tamborine Mountain residents has been fostered and promoted by the Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts Inc.
From a humble beginning in a slab hut in Doris Aagaard’s garden in February 1975, 16 people established the organisation which today has grown to around 143 members.
On February 25, 2025 they will mark the 50th anniversary at Creative Arts Inc, 53 Wongawallen Road Eagle Heights with a special ceremony in the morning for members.
From 1-3pm the centre will be open to the public with displays of work from some of the many groups which form Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts Inc.
Groups include: patchworking, pottery, wearable arts, life drawing, botanical drawing and creative writing.
“It’s all run by volunteers and is a good social outing for the ladies on the mountain who look forward to coming every week. It’s all fun and nothing serious,” Glenda Sullivan treasurer and membership officer said.
“They range in age from 40 up to 94,”
“During Covid it was distressing for many not able to come, sometimes it’s their only outing each week.”
Much of the work done by the groups is donated to a variety of causes including the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation shop to sell. While knitted pouches are given to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and carers on the mountain.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations on Vanessa Bull will announce the new patron; the first since 2015 when Rhoda Rushbrook, who was one of the founding members, was patron.
A new honour board will be unveiled with the names of the first 16 members as well as the life members and patrons.
Anyone wishing to join can attend the craft group on Wednesdays between 9am-12am for more information.
