TAMBORINE welcomes all women to their first Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) branch meeting on March 1 at Tamborine Memorial Hall.
With their official launch commencing, the group can advocate their cause for bringing women together and supporting them through isolation.
CWA Tamborine President Sandra Parker-Murphy is excited to bring Tamborine a CWA after announcing the idea on November 22, 2024.
“It’s been a framework, and now we’re past the infancy stage of development, and now we’re at launch,” she said.
“We’ve had time to gain expressions of interest in the community since November, so we’re hoping by the official launch in March, it’s going to be something that has been heard of rather than starting brand new.”
She believes the semi-rural state of Tamborine is perfect for a CWA to cater for women, especially on acreage.
“You’ve got highly capable women in this community living on acreage. Sure, it’s semi-rural, but we’re still isolated,” Sandra said.
“The chance for women to come together and form friendships in a semi-rural community has been well received.”
The current CWA Tamborine committee consists of Sandra as President, Karyn Ferguson and Kerri Cryer as Vice Presidents, Hayley Muchow as Secretary and Jo Bruggy as International Women’s Officer, with the committee still seeking a treasurer.
To ensure their launch is spectacular, the committee is holding a group meeting, open to the public, at Tamborine Memorial Hall on February 21, from 6pm to brainstorm ideas for their launch.
Sandra hopes the launch can welcome local women to a safe space surrounded by CWA values.
“We’re a very friendly and warm community. We want to help families that might be struggling within our community, and know that we are approachable to help,” she said.
“We want to work in Tamborine whilst we’re small. We’re a great community and that’s indicative in the community-based organisations you see now.”
“Adding a women’s organisation to this is only going to make a stronger sense of resource and community,” Sandra added.
Meetings will be held at the Tamborine Memorial Hall, 2760 Waterford Tamborine Road, Tamborine. For more information, contact Sandra at 0439 060 150.
