TAMBORINE Mountain’s The Wayward Johnsons are set to bring their 70s vs 80s show back to St Bernard’s Hotel on November 15, promising a refreshed setlist and an upgraded production.
Frontman Steve Denley said the band had mixed up their repertoire to keep things engaging for both musicians and audiences.
“We’ve added a few new ones this time. It’s good for us to keep it fresh and keep it interesting for the crowd,” he said.
“Whether you’re playing originals or covers, you’ve got to challenge yourself with new songs. It hurts your brain at first, but when it all gels, that’s the fun bit.”
This show will also feature enhanced sound and lighting by Ethan Ward, a local music technician known for working with numerous mountain artists.
“Ethan’s doing sound and lights for us, which is a step up,” Steve said.
“It’ll make it a better show overall, and it’s great to have local talent involved.”
Steve said the band had built a loyal following on the mountain and hoped to continue attracting a broad mix of generations.
“At the last show we had everyone from eight-year-olds to eighty-year-olds dancing,” he said.
“Those 70s and 80s songs just cross generations – people have heard them through their parents, in movies, or in ads. They’re perennial favourites.”
Tickets are available through the Wayward Johnsons Facebook page, with free entry for children.
“We do this because it’s so fun,” Steve said.
“Hopefully people come out, have a good meal, a dance, and enjoy the night.”
