Julie Shepherd is a ceramic artist specialising in pierced and translucent porcelain.
Her work is represented in 13 public gallery collections, she has been the recipient of numerous prizes, exhibited extensively throughout Australia as well as internationally in China, Korea and Singapore, and been the recipient of multiple ceramic residencies in China and Australia. Her work has even been commissioned as part of theatrical productions and public installations.
Julie Shepherd’s exhibition of exquisite porcelain artworks “Spiral” will be on show at Under the Greenwood Tree from June 14 to July 14 with Julie in attendance at the exhibition opening on Saturday June 14 from 3pm.
In this body of work, Julie uses the spiral form as a symbol to represent growth and life, the spiral has been a recuring motif in her work for many years and is inspired by her love of nature and its intricate designs and patterns.
The artwork’s appearance of delicacy and fragility is in fact not reflected in the structural integrity of the work.
The soft porcelain is fired multiple times to reach high temperatures rendering it extraordinarily strong.
The resultant ceramic could potentially endure for thousands of years.
It is a beautiful exhibition by an artist of great talent.
