An amenities block that has been at the Tamborine Equestrian Group (TEG) grounds since it opened in 2012 has received a much-needed upgrade, a project that has been in the works for some time.
The old amenities block, donated to the club more than 12 years ago, featured two showers and three toilets.
TEG secured a $20,000 infrastructure grant through the Scenic Rim Regional Council to refurbish a new amenities block, also donated from a mining site.
The group’s community of riders, volunteers and supporters also contributed significantly to the development.
Upgrades included the addition of five showers and 10 toilets, with female and unisex facilities available.
Club Secretary Kirsty Ward was excited to launch the new facilities at the group’s March event, the Concours Complet International four-star short eventing competition.
The event attracted 180 competitors and was attended by Cr Kerri Cryer, Cr Amanda Hay and Mayor Tom Sharp.
Kirsty said the new upgrades aim to improve competitor comfort, particularly as many camp on site for several days.
“We’ve got a lot of competitors who have their own facilities in their trucks and boats, but a lot of competitors don’t,” she said.
“They certainly have been giving us a lot of really positive feedback, saying how nice it is to have something a bit more modern and spacious.
“It’s always nicer to have decent facilities rather than something that’s a bit old and dodgy.”
As the TEG grounds are the only venue in Queensland where competitors can gain Olympic qualification, maintaining high-standard facilities is essential.
Kirsty hopes further improvements can be made to the grounds, including upgrades to surfaces and equipment.
