Tamborine Mountain Bowls Club (the Taipans) is proud to advise that, whilst Barry Chatel was unable to secure the elusive ‘triple crown’, that feat was achieved by Susie Radford, Susie now being the Club Champion in Ladies Singles, Pairs, and Fours!
Congratulations to Susie on a fantastic achievement, and all the Club Champions, after what has been a most competitive season.
Congratulations also to Sue Arthur, Trish West and Susie Radford in completing their coaching accreditation, bringing the Club’s coaching numbers to six.
They are in charge of the Club’s junior coaching program, so the club looks forward to welcoming budding junior bowlers to the great game of lawn bowls.
More congratulations for junior bowler, Damon Bartholomeusz, who secured a silver medal at the Australian Open in the Intellectual Open Singles, having to play his Pairs skip from previous games (Darren Jackson) in the final, and acquitting himself extremely well.
Damon is our second bowler to medal at the Australian Open, preceded only by Dr John Vance.
The first game of the local derby against Canungra, for the Can-Tam Shield, was played over seven rinks at Tamborine Mountain on Saturday June 13, and it is pleasing to note that the home team will go into the return game at Canungra on June 27 with a +28 shot margin, so hold high hopes of reclaiming the Shield.
Winter is also the season for the Winter Fours tournament on Tamborine Mountain, held on June 20, and the club welcomed 88 bowlers for a day comprised of three games, a morning tea prepared by the Taipans bowlers, and lunch.
Thanks to Club Tamborine for helping make this event a success, $2,080 in prizemoney was awarded, and three massive meat trays were won in the raffles. Most importantly, great mountain hospitality was on show, and all went home very happy.
