The power of 40 volunteers

Many hands make light work and so it was the case at the Tamborine Mountain Sports Association complex recently.

A team of 40 heeded a call from the association to help close off a number of projects that needed attention.

With support coming from numerous local businesses the Sunday effort resulted in key projects getting crossed off the to-do list.

Association president, Alick Kilsby, said they were indebted to the energetic volunteers who gave up their Sunday to lend a hand.

“I was amazed that in one day we could complete so much,” he said.

“The front fence is almost completely painted, the main gardens were weeded and cleared, the long jump pit and grandstand were power washed and the change rooms and equipment sheds were totalled cleaned.

“We also aerated and sanded the Bret Arthur Field and undertook some major landscaping work along the fence line at the bottom of our precinct.”

Alick said the work couldn’t have been done without the support of local businesses.

Happy Kookaburra Landscaping brought a digger, Green Skips Qld provided a skip, Mount Tamborine Hardware – Mitre 10 donated painting supplies, Dulux provided the paint, Hartley Road Landscaping, helped repair the fence and removed the downed trees and Stuart from Eagle Heights Butchery fueled the volunteers with snags on the BBQ.

Our member clubs – Tamborine Mountain Little Athletics, Mt. Fitness, Tamborine Mountain Netball Club, Tamborine Mountain Canungra Cricket Club, Tamborine Mountain Bushrats and Tamborine Mountain Eagles Soccer Club all got behind the working bee and provided volunteers throughout the day.

“Thanks to everyone who picked up a shovel, paintbrush, hose, whipper snipper or rake and got stuck in, it was a great reminder of what we can achieve when our community comes together” Alick said.
