Land Valuations
By now property owners will have received their new valuations.
Mine went up by just over 50 per cent. Please note that the valuations were done as at October 1, 2024, before Cyclone Alfred.
Please ensure you read both sides of the separate sheet accompanying your valuation which outlines the avenues available if your land has been impacted by the recent cyclone.
I encourage the residents of Guanaba Road who have experienced a recent land slip to submit an amendment application.
I am happy to assist with this as I have done dozens of these in the past (on a voluntary basis). Your valuation is one component of your rates calculation.
Gallery Walk Carpark
Construction was scheduled to commence on April 7, weather permitting. There is to be minimal night works. The expected completion date is now late January 2026.
Generator
Council has taken possession of a mobile 60Kva generator which was ordered several months ago. Discussions are continuing re the declaration of places of refuge/recovery hubs on the Mountain.
Fire Ants
Fire ants have been found again on the Mountain. Please check your yards as early identification and treatment is vital in curbing their spread.
Mulch at Long Road Sports Complex
Council will not be making mulch available to the public.
The site will remain open for residents to drop green waste there until all verge collections have been completed. Once this occurs, green waste can only be dropped at the Knoll Road tip.
Community Consultation
There will be an opportunity for ratepayers and residents to have input into Council’s draft budget once it has been formulated.
This community meeting is your opportunity to have your say on what you would like Council to concentrate on locally – including bikeways/footpaths, improvement to facilities, more community programs etc.
I have recently been told that the younger members of our community are not keen on this form of community engagement as it does not appeal to them but that zoom meetings would be more suitable.
I have put this suggestion through to Council.
