Following the release of their successful debut album Haven’t You Heard?, local legends, The Inadequates, have been as finalists for the Australian Folk Music Awards (AFMAs) in multiple categories.

The trio, comprised of brothers Jackson and Marcus Church, and Lawson Mackriell, have been nominated as finalists in three categories this year: Contemporary Album of the Year, Debut Album/EP of the year, and Folk Artist of the Year in a group or ensemble.

“It means that we can clap really loudly when everyone wins the categories that we’ve been nominated for,” joked Marcus.

“It’s nice to know we’re getting support from the industry at large – for the stuff that we pour our blood, sweat and tears into,” he said.

Jackson and Marcus are members of local folk-group, The Haystack Mountain Hermits, who have also been nominated for the Folk Artist of the Year award.

The nominations came in at an incredibly busy time for the band.

“This has come at a really crazy time, it’s just been in the busiest period of the bands career,” said Marcus.

They are currently preparing for their recently announced Australian tour, which will include their first headline shows in Adelaide and Perth.

“This will be our first time doing a headline show in Perth and Adelaide, so we’re super pumped to get over there,” he explained.

While they have played at the other scheduled cities before, this will be their first time playing at the specific venues.

“We’ve never played any of these venues,” said Jackson.

“They’re all much bigger venues than we have ever played before, so we’re really excited to see how that goes,” he said.

Before the tour begins, The Inadequates will be playing a special show at the Junk Bar, New Farm on October 27.

They will be joined by Geelong folk duo, Mickey and Michelle.

“It’s a real joy for us to put on a show with them, besides the fact that we’re really good friends as well, I really do think that they’re one of the most exciting things on the Australian folk scene right now,” Marcus said.
