TRANSLINK have refused to add a stop at Tamborine Village residents, despite requests to do so.
The service currently operates from Tamborine Mountain to Beenleigh train station once a day on weekdays, running through Tamborine. It departs the mountain at 6:30am and returns at 6:20pm.
A spokesperson for Translink said it is as demand responsive service (DRT) connecting customers from urban areas of Tamborine Mountain to key public transport hubs and major retail or employment.
“Unfortunately, the very low and dispersed population in the rural and rural residential areas of Tamborine make the provision of public transport in the form of a DRT difficult without significantly extending journey times, and extending service into this area is not being considered at this time,” the spokesperson said.
Tamborine Village resident, Tracy Campbell, wrote to Translink requesting they stop at the Tamborine, but was told the land use did not support public transport.
“With the growing population, along with an aging demographic public transport is a necessity for our, and all, rural areas,” she said.
“And that service that already passes through the Village is denied is just crazy. Bureaucracy at its finest yet again.
“Translink really needs to rethink this decision.”
Division 2 Councillor Kerri Cryer said she was extremely disappointed the service did not include a stop for the almost 4500 residents within the village.
“I look forward to working with the appropriate state government departments to address the need for public transport connectivity for the residents of Tamborine,” she said.
“With the Draft Scenic Rim Integrated Transport Plan open for consultation until July 14 2025, I also strongly encourage the residents of Tamborine to engage with the plan to collectively include their voice in a bid for better public transport connectivity.”
