A SINGLE draft horse can pull a maximum load of 4,000kg.
So logically we could expect that two draft horses can pull 8,000kg, right?
Actually two untrained draft horses can pull 12,000kg and if trained to work together they are capable of pulling 16,000kg. The whole being greater than the sum of the parts is called synergy. This principal even works in relationships.
A partnership will automatically bring you the benefit of achieving more than you could as individuals. However, you can train yourselves to work together for even greater benefits.
Imagine that every day your partner was focussed and interested in you achieving your dreams and goals and you were doing the same for them. Sounds simple but the reason couples don’t do it is because it requires personal sacrifice.
Opportunities tend to ebb and flow in life creating seasons of sacrifice where one partner picks up a load for a while. It might mean taking care of the kids when you’d rather be socialising; getting a second job; doing extra housework for a period while your partner studies.
Learning to move dynamically as a couple will capitalise on the ebb and flow.
The couple who learns to do this will ultimately go much further than those who are together but are individually chasing their dreams.
Recognise that you each have dreams and goals and decide to help your partner achieve theirs.
Take the time to discover your partner’s unspoken dream and together find a way to make it happen.
Sitting down and having these conversations can open up a whole new world of opportunity for both of you.
