ROAD repairs continue in two locations that sustained significant damage associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in early March 2025.

The southern section of the Goat Track near Canungra and the northern section at the Piano Rock are still under repair.

A statement from the Department of Transport and Main Roads said both sites have sustained extensive damage, including fallen trees, plant debris on and around the road and damage to the road surface.

“Most critically, landslips have necessitated road closures.”

“To monitor these landslips, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has installed CCTV cameras at the Goat Track and Piano Rock.”

“Work crews are currently onsite and will spend the next month clearing fallen trees and debris.”

The Goat Track

Due to significant damage, the road is closed on the southern side, approximately 1.6 kilometres from the intersection of Beaudesert–Nerang Road, Canungra.

Works are underway to construct a single traffic lane to restore through access for light vehicles. More information will be provided in the coming weeks on when this lane will be available for use.

Extensive assessments have begun to determine the full extent of the damage.

The community will be kept informed as the reconstruction timeline becomes clearer.

The Piano Rock

The section of road beneath Piano Rock has sustained the most significant damage in this area and has been reduced to a single lane, controlled by traffic signals. This will remain in place until slope remediation works are undertaken.

Investigation works will be undertaken in the coming weeks, requiring a temporary full road closure. These works will be carried out at night, and the community will be notified in advance. A signed detour will be in place during the temporary closure.

The road surface has also been damaged at the intersection of Eagle Heights Road and Geissmann Drive. Repairs will be completed in the coming weeks, with stop/slow traffic conditions and a reduced lane in place during the works.

TMR acknowledges the inconvenience caused to the local community and appreciates the patience and understanding of motorists while these critical works are underway.
