The Queensland Government is currently undertaking restoration works just north of Songbirds Retreat on Tamborine Mountain Road.

The works involve earthworks, slope stabilisation, drainage and revegetation, and are due to be completed by early April 2026, weather permitting.

Over 10 additional sites will commence work in mid-April 2026 between Barry Road, Tamborine, and Eagle Heights Road, Tamborine Mountain, and will include:

  • Scaling, trimming and revegetation of unstable embankments with void filling as required.
  • Replacement of damaged culverts.
  • Repairs and back fill of scoured drains.
  • Repairs to pavement.

Single lane closures, nightworks, reduced speed limits and occasional detours are to be expected during the works.

Additional reconstruction works are expected to commence in mid to late 2026 to repair damage caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in March 2025.

Since the cyclone, the planning and design phase has involved survey and geotechnical investigations.

The investigations will ensure the best value-for-money reconstruction solutions are adopted for over 60 damaged sites on Tamborine Mountain Road, Tamborine-Oxenford Road and Tamborine-Nerang Road.

This includes major reconstruction of downslope slips at the Goat Track and Piano Rock on Tamborine Mountain Road.

The Goat Track

  • Temporary slope stabilisation works were completed in April 2025, and this section of Tamborine Mountain Road remains under a single lane with temporary traffic signals.
  • Monitoring, survey, geotechnical investigations and design continue.
  • Construction is expected to commence in mid to late 2026.

 Piano Rock

  • Emergency works at Piano Rock were completed in June 2025.
  • Monitoring, survey, geotechnical investigations and design continue.
  • Construction is expected to commence in mid to late 2026.

Further information related to works at these locations will be provided to the community prior to commencement of construction.

The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Road Asset Management Contract

Road surface improvement works are being finalised on multiple sections of Tamborine Mountain Road between Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road and Eagle Heights Road and between Beacon Road and Hartley Road, with all work expected to be complete this month.

Cedar Creek Falls Road to Eagle Heights Road

  • Slope reinforcement works began in January 2026 and are expected to take about four months to complete.
  • This work is part of a program to repair and reinforce areas that were damaged by heavy rainfall.

Temporary lane closures with stop/slow traffic controls during work hours and a reduced speed limit to 40km/h 24/7 is in place for safety of road users.
