Tamborine Mountain Men’s Shed members got involved in a ‘Hearts & Minds’ activity using their carpentry workshop skills to cut out several wooden hearts for a craft exercise in support of the Tamborine Mountain Community Care.
The heart cutouts will be put to good use by crafting groups at Roslyn Lodge and the Community-Care monthly Coffee Club meetings.
Long-term Community Care volunteer Sandra Evans, who asked the Men’s Shed members to cut out the wooden hearts said the activity required each group member to decorate a heart with coloured paper and then to glue on artificial flowers.
“I had the art supplies of paper, glue and artificial flowers but no hearts. Therefore, I was delighted with the Men’s Shed’s ‘hearty’ response in agreeing to cut out the wooden shapes,” she added.
Sandra also shared that crafting activities of this nature, as well as doing puzzles and quizzes, helps to keeps the residents minds and hands active.
A Men’s Shed spokesperson said the members were happy to assist, providing the timber cutouts at no cost and donating their time to a very worthwhile cause.
Several Men’s Shed members undertook the task of cutting the hearts in between working on their own projects.
One shed member, who was applying coats of paint to his own project was able to create several ‘hearts’ whilst waiting for paint to dry.
The Men’s Shed’s workshops, where activities include woodwork, leatherwork, woodturning and socialising (morning tea), are located at 88 Beacon Road behind the tennis courts.
Shed membership is open to all males over 18 years and previous manual arts skills are not essential.
