Guernsey Lily – Nerine sp, roadside, Eagle Heights.
The photo is another new inclusion on my website due to bringing the data information for my Image Library up to date.
The genus is native to South Africa and contains 20-30 species.
I could not resist photographing this striking plant, growing in isolation by the side of the road.
From the scant online images, yellow appears to be an uncommon colour.
The plant is also known as a spider lily, but belongs to a different genus to the familiar white-flowering variant which can be seen in dense rows in parts of the mountain in Summer and Autumn.
