Dreamy garden shed a winner

Pam Glucina drew on Scandi design for her winning shed

THINK of the garden shed and you think of something masculine filled with power tools and messy shelves overflowing with stuff.

But Pam Glucina’s garden shed is definitely not masculine, nor filled with power tools; it’s a dreamy, inspiring oasis, complete with a crystal chandelier.

“I needed a space where I could store my tools and was convenient to work from,” she said of her delightful little shed tucked away in her garden.

“I wanted a nice-looking shed, something attractive that would blend into the front garden.”

“It’s a very simple design, just a three by two metre shed and it has everything I need in it.:

“It has evolved over time with vines growing over it.”

Pam is beaming having just won the ABC Organic Gardener magazine’s Show us Your Shed competition.

“I never ever enter competitions, but everyone loves my shed, so I thought, why not,” she said.

When the call came in to say she’d won, Pam said she couldn’t believe it.

“I’d forgotten about it after entering in December. It was a humbling experience that someone would choose my shed for a first prize, and it was really nice to get that recognition. It was a pretty awesome feeling.”

As the Organic Gardener magazine said, a shed is more than just a structure – it’s a reflection of the individual’s passion, creativity and love for gardening and this is certainly true of Pam’s.

Her inspiration came from Scandi design style, with its black façade and green door providing a striking contrast to her home.

She enlisted the help of her builder neighbour who installed elevated wooden sleeper floors giving it a rustic element.

Reclaimed windows from an old cottage and a farmhouse door sourced locally completed the uniqueness of Pam’s shed.

There’s a designated area for seed sorting, tool organisation and drying flowers and herbs.

“Every tool has its place and goes back into its place,” she said.

And at the end of a day or for a moment of contemplation there’s a cosy nook with a refurbished vintaged chair to sit on beneath the chandelier.
