The Cableway
As Tamborine Mountain has not been removed from the potential routes under consideration by Gold Coast City Council in either its Planning & Regulation Committee meeting of January 20, 2026, nor appears on the Ordinary Meeting agenda for January 27, 2026, I have put forward the following motion for Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Ordinary Meeting of January 28, 2026:
“That the CEO write a letter to the Council of the City of Gold Coast requesting information on its resolution of December 2, 2025 ‘That Council utilises the existing 2025-26 funding allocation to undertake the necessary work to identify a proposed route and determine the level of community and First Nations support for a cableway either; by connecting to Springbrook; or connecting to Mt Tamborine.’ especially in regard to the potential volume of tourists and the impact that they are likely to have on the character of Tamborine Mountain and the requirements for additional infrastructure on the Mountain.”
This issue is of far greater importance than saving wildlife.
It goes to our relaxed lifestyle and the reason we pay high rates for our village amenity and quiet enjoyment of our relatively unspoilt environment.
Kidd St and MacDonnell Rd development applications
Both are anticipated to be finalised by the end of April 2026.
For those questioning if Council should be dismissed for gross incompetence regarding Kidd Street, let’s reflect on a couple of facts:
1. Council issued an information request/Action Notice nine days after the application was lodged on March 13, 2024.
2. The applicant took 15 months to provide a comprehensive response including a Social Impact Assessment and multiple complex reports, and reducing the home numbers by 25. The majority of Councillors and the Mayor undertook site visits to both proposed developments on 21 January 21, 2026.
I embrace the precautionary principle rather than the let’s make an uninformed decision approach.
Tamborine Mountain Library
After much questioning of Council staff re why the repairs are taking so long, I have been assured some action can be expected soon.
Community consultation
I will be available at the Councillor’s office (first glass door near the Post office) from 10am to 4pm on Thursday, 29 January.
