TAMBORINE student Lexi Devine is putting her love of crocheting to good use bringing joy to the sick.
She has joined a nurse from Beaudesert Hospital on the Bravery Bee Project, donating the cutest little colourful bees for patients to brighten their stay.
The 17-year-old saw a post from Queensland Health about the project and calling for people to help make the bees.
Lexi said she’s been crocheting for about three years and seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they received her pieces made her realise how happy they make people.
The idea of donating to people in hospital had been on her mind, but she didn’t know how to go about it until she saw the Bravery Bee Project.
“It makes me feel warm and like I am doing something important,” she said.
“I’ve had heaps of people say they got a bee, and it made their day better.
“The little soft bees are very tactile, begging to be picked up.
“They are so cute, and bees are resilient. Our neighbours have hives, and they come over.”
Lexi is asking for donations of wool to continue to make her bees.
She also sells many other creations and takes commissions through her Instagram account, essenceofanne.
