Street Hoops: Wolves Launch Social Basketball for Kids

Tamborine Mountain has a new after school social basketball competition – Street Hoops!

If your child is aged between seven and nine and looking for something fun and active to do after school – tell your kids to grab their mates and come and give Street Hoops Basketball a go.

Hosted by the Wolves on Wednesday afternoons from 4pm – 6pm on the Tamborine Mountain State School outdoor basketball courts, this social comp has been designed for kids to develop essential physical and social skills in a fun and stress free environment.

Often the pressure of competition sports becomes overwhelming for kids and they can miss out on necessary development opportunities. Street Hoops Basketball gives kids opportunities to develop self-confidence, teamwork & mateship,  technical skills and resilience as they build friendships and personal connections.

“We heard success stories of the old after school basketball games that happened at the Vonda Youngman Centre back in the 80’s and 90’s. It feels right to breathe some life back into the idea” said Wolves founder and Street Hoops facilitator Adam Chanter.

Each week up to 12 teams of boys, girls or mixed teams with four to six kids in each team will take the court, receiving coaching for skills and drills to assure they learn the game of basketball needed to play social competition.

There will be an appointed qualified coach and referee to each team who will help the kids learn the game. The game will be played on lower 9ft hoops which is shorter than the standard 10ft hoop. This helps to increase each player’s chance to put the ball in the hoop. The kids will receive a t-shirt in their team colours at the beginning of the program.

You can register as an individual and be allocated to a team or you can register a complete team with all your friends!

Commencing Wednesday October 16 for eight weeks, the program will wrap up with a BBQ awards ceremony. Cost is $150 with afterpay and Fairplay Vouchers accepted.
