Time stands still on development applications

RESIDENTS are anxiously awaiting decisions on two development applications.

Scenic Rim Regional Council has requested multiple extensions for both MCU24/025 at 30 Kidd Street and MCU24/174 at 24 – 34 Macdonnell Road.

The latest extension requested for the Kidd Street application, which was due for a decision on October 14, was for an extension to November 4, 2025.

In an email to Innovative Planning Solutions, a Council Planning officer requested a three week extension of time.

“We are writing to seek additional time to advance the assessment to enable the Assessment Report to be finalised for presentation at a meeting of Ordinary Council,” the email stated.

There was no response to the email available on Council’s DAP Online platform at the time of print.

The decision period for the application for a retirement facility at 24 – 34 Macdonnell Road expired on September 26, 2025.

On August 6 a request to extend the decision period to 31 October, 2025 was sent to Planit Consulting.

“Noting that the subject development application is due to be decided on or before 18 August 2025, we require additional time to (a) finalise the assessment, and to (b) compile the Assessment Report for presentation at a meeting of Ordinary Council,” the email stated.

“Accordingly, we kindly request an extension to the decision stage to Friday, October 31, 2025 to allow us time to get the application presented and discussed at the meeting of Ordinary Council on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.”

When asked whether these matters would be on the agenda of Council’s next general meeting on October 29, Council’s media team was unable to respond by deadline.

However, Cr Amanda Hay said it was unlikely as Councillors have not yet received a brief in relation to the applications, or a recommendation.

Both applications received a number of submissions during the public consultation period, the majority of which were opposing the development applications.
