Both Taipans teams have finished the regular season strongly in the Gold Coast District Sevens competition, topping their respective sections ahead of the finals series.
However, the finals draw has produced an unusual twist, with the two Taipans sides set to face each other in the opening match of the finals.
While the result means a Taipans versus Taipans grand final will not eventuate, it does guarantee the club a place in the semi-finals.
The club is hoping to carry its strong form into the finals series and will provide an update once the matches are played.
Meanwhile, several club championships are approaching their final stages.
In the A Grade Ladies Singles Final, Susie Radford will face Sue Arthur, with the date yet to be confirmed.
The A Grade Ladies Pairs Final will see Sue Arthur and Susie Radford take on Trish West and Salli-Anne Walding.
In the A Grade Mixed Pairs Semi-finals, to be played by April 18, Jeff Lee and Vicki Lee will face Dave Bartholomeusz and Kelly Bartholomeusz, while Richard Coupe and Julie Forsyth will play Bob Kirkright and Sue Arthur.
The A Grade Men’s Fours semi-finals are scheduled for April 11, with the final to follow on April 12.
In the A Grade Men’s Pairs Semi-finals (play by March 28), Jeff Lee and Jon MacKelvie will meet Dave Bartholomeusz and Darran Walding, while Barry Chatel and Ray Weavers will face Jim Nugent and Mike Power.
The A Grade Men’s Singles Semi-finals (play by April 26) will see Lance Cordingley take on Dave Bartholomeusz and Dave Free face Barry Chatel.
