The Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival 2024 kicked off with a launch event for the community at Grand Chameleon.

The team behind the festival gathered, along with local councillors Kerri Cryer and Amanda Hay as well State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause.

Local musician Arianna entered guests and opened the night with a welcome to country.

The dedicated committee behind the popular event grew this year and included people aged from 16 to over 80.

Addison Moorkens and Teegan Mitchell from Tamborine Mountain College volunteered on the committee to gain skills and learn leadership as well as how events are put together.

The mountain was abuzz with tourists and locals out enjoying the hundreds of scarecrows and a large number of buskers added to the lively atmosphere at various locations over the weekend.

Poetry entries were displayed at the library and over 100 entries were received for the children’s colouring competition.

The senior poetry competition was won by Maia Jane Arnold for her poem ‘The Scarecrow’.

Festival mascot Hayden will be ready for some rest and recreation for another year after a busy time attending events and popping up all over the mountain, including at the police station.
