THE Valley Owls have claimed victory in this year’s CanTam Shield, defeating the Tamborine Mountain Taipans by two shots in the return leg of the local derby.
The Taipans entered the home match with a 17-shot advantage from their earlier win in Canungra, but the Owls produced a strong performance to overturn the deficit and win the day by 19 shots.
Despite missing some of their regular players, the Taipans congratulated the Owls on a well-deserved result.
The Taipans also hosted their Spring Triples tournament on October 4 and 5, attracting 48 players competing for the club trophy and prize pool.
The winning team of Clinton Hodges, Col Smith, and Joe Pegler travelled from Everton Park to take home top honours.
Eight teams shared in the prizemoney, with additional meat tray and 100 Club winners adding to the weekend’s festivities.
In Gold Coast District competition, the Taipans have secured one win from three rounds in the Summer Nines.
Their upcoming match against Burleigh Heads is expected to provide a strong measure of their finals prospects.
Meanwhile, Thursday Twilight Bowls has resumed for the warmer months, offering a social evening of bowls, nibbles, and drinks from 5pm for $5 per person.
Looking ahead, the club plans to launch a junior bowls program and expand coaching opportunities, including external mentoring from an Australian representative.
The Taipans are encouraging new members and aspiring bowlers to join their growing and inclusive club community.
